Seven years ago, Griffiths Tuition expanded to run chess courses in the South Wales area. Held throughout Glamorgan our enthusiasm has brought chess to pupils in St Michael’s, Oakleigh, Craig-y-nos, Ffynone, Gowerton and many more, helping enthusiastic youngsters explore a new game. Chess can aid both mathematical and scientific thinking, as well as providing social interaction for those who might not be able to obtain it through outside sports and activities.

Our courses provide a range of activities; historical chess in art and crafts for the youngest; whilst puzzles and activities are used to explore the background with older pupils. We run tournaments, dish out prizes, give tips and aid their strategic thinking, helping them understand and enjoy the game. In addition to this we provide guidance in taking the game further, especially for those who show a talent. Several of our players have become Welsh champions in their sections and numerous take part in the adult West Wales Chess League.

With experienced chess teachers, Griffiths Tuition has staff who are friendly and knowledgeable in their topic. Our teachers run two courses. The first involves tournaments, participation in the UK Chess Schools competition, activities to improve their understanding of the game and prizes to reward those who show effort. We also offer a cheaper alternative, with participation in the UK Chess Schools competition with tips and help to aid their learning. Whichever you choose, we can take the stress off the school by dealing with the financial administration and contacting parents directly.
